The
2016 NFL Draft has come & go now it’s time to take a look back at all the
storylines & headlines that surrounded it. It varies from the Laremy Tunsil
saga, the 12 players from THE Ohio State University being selected, The Rams
& Eagles trading up to select QBs.
The
Laremy Tunsil topic dominated the storylines at the beginning of the draft.
With the video posted to his official Twitter account of him smoking a bong.
Then the text message thread of him asking an Ole Miss assistant coach for $300
so his mother can pay her light bill. Both events contributed to him falling to
the Miami Dolphins at pick #13. However, his talent and overall grades from
many scouts and teams had as the best player on their boards. He possibly could’ve
been the #1 overall selection if the Tennessee Titans had not traded out of the
pick. The Titans big need was offensive line help to help protect young QB
Marcus Mariota. Tunsil can wind up being the steal of the draft having the big
time talent but falling low because of the afore mentioned issues. It’s also
good to see that he won’t start the season on the NFL’s substance abuse
program, but however, he will be closely monitored.
The NFL
Draft also seen big time talented players selected from THE Ohio State
University. The Buckeyes had 12 players overall be selected in this year’s NFL
Draft. Including 2 in the top 5 (Joey Bosa & Ezekiel Elliot), 3 in the top
10 (Bosa, Elliot, & Eli Apple), and 5 in the top 20 & first round
overall (Bosa, Elliot, Apple, Taylor Decker, & Darron Lee). Making the
Buckeyes the first school to have 5 first round selections. The school also had
10 selections in the top 100 picks. All of the picks from Ohio State had very
successful college careers and being a huge Ohio State fan myself I’m really
pulling for all 12 to have successful NFL careers as well. The talent pool from
one school hasn’t been seen on this level before. The 12 selections go as such
·
DE Joey Bosa 1st Round 3rd
Overall to The San Diego Chargers
·
RB Ezekiel Elliot 1st Round 4th
Overall to The Dallas Cowboys
·
CB Eli Apple 1st Round 10th

The Los Angeles Rams & Philadelphia
Eagles both traded up in the draft this year in hopes of finding the next great
QB for each respective franchise. In this year’s case the QB were Jared Goff
from Cal and Carson Wentz from North Dakota State. In the Rams case they traded
with the Titans for its first-, fourth-, and sixth-round selections (1st,
113th, and 177th) in exchange for Los Angeles's first-round, two second-round,
and third-round selections in this year's draft (15th, 43rd, 45th, and 76th) as
well as Los Angeles's first- and third-round selections in the 2017 NFL draft.
In the case of the Philadelphia Eagles they traded with the Cleveland Browns. Cleveland
traded this selection (2nd) and a conditional fifth-round selection in 2017
(this selection would be upgraded to a compensatory fourth-round selection if
the Browns receive one in 2017) to Philadelphia in exchange for Philadelphia's
first-round, third-round, and fourth-round selections in this year’s draft
(8th, 77th, and 100th) as well as Philadelphia's first-round selection in the
2017 NFL draft and second-round selection in the 2018 NFL draft. Philadelphia’s
trade came more into question having already signed QB Sam Bradford and Backup
QB Chase Daniel to big extensions. Los Angeles’s case was justified as they
seen struggles last season from Nick Foles & Case Keenum. The Rams wound up
selecting Jared Goff with the 1st Overall selection, & the
Eagles took Carson Wentz 2nd Overall.
Now
that the 2016 Draft is concluded and the rookies are reporting to NFL Camps we
have officially started their NFL journeys. Only time will tell if all the
selections pan out or not but it will be an exciting one nonetheless now that
we’re nearly 2 months away from the start of training camps. Anticipation and
anxiousness will only build for players and fans until that day arrives.
Nonetheless we fans can’t wait for the season the begin. Best of luck to all of
the 2016 NFL Draftees.
